Frequently Asked Questions

What is being announced?

UF Health St. Johns became a part of UF Health, the University of Florida’s academic health center, beginning Sept. 1, 2023. Going forward, the organization will now be known in the region as UF Health St. Johns . As a tribute to its 130-year heritage, the hospital in St. Augustine has been renamed UF Health Flagler Hospital.

Why did this acquisition occur?

Over the last decade, the health care industry has changed significantly – and so have the communities we serve. Meaningful relationships are increasingly required to meet the health care needs of our growing patient population.

After exploring options from some of the most respected health care organizations in the country, the UF Health St. Johns Board of Trustees decided to join UF Health because the nationally renowned health system offered the strengths of a top 5 public research institution coupled with innovative, high-quality, leading-edge care that will benefit the residents of Flagler, St. Johns, Putnam, Clay, and Duval counties for generations to come.

What is the vision for UF Health St. Johns?

The vision of UF Health St. Johns is to advance health care in Northeast Florida communities by delivering excellent health care services that are patient-centered, innovative, and high-quality.

UF Health St. Johns will continue to provide high-quality health care services to underserved populations and expand access to care in the community. The organization will focus on quality of care, access to leading-edge patient care programs, and opportunities for training and research.

How will UF Health St. Johns accomplish this vision?

Working together, team members from UF Health St. Johns and the larger UF Health system will collectively assess community health care needs and then develop strategic plans to provide new medical personnel, facilities, and resources as necessary to achieve our shared strategic vision.

UF Health St. Johns is committed to delivering the highest level of clinical care to improve the health of the communities they serve through:

  • Continuing the enhancement of quality and patient satisfaction by sharing best practices.
  • Supporting key community-focused service lines (e.g., Behavioral Health, Women’s Health, etc.) while expanding the breadth and depth of services provided locally.
  • Enhancing the organization’s ability to provide high-quality health care services to underserved populations.
  • Strengthening recruitment and retention of team members, physicians, and advanced practice providers to enhance the community’s access to local quality health care.
  • Adding technology resources and expertise, including an integrated enterprise-wide technology strategy, electronic health record implementation, and new clinical technology and equipment to support health care professionals.
  • Enhancing access to capital to support future investments in facilities, infrastructure, technology, and growth initiatives.

Will the Mission and Vision change?

No. At UF Health St. Johns, the patient is the center of everything we do. We will look to maximize treatment options, improve coordination of care, offer the latest medical breakthroughs, and explore new opportunities related to our missions of patient care, community service, medical education, and research activities.

Will the UF Health St. Johns name and logo change?

The organization previously known as Flagler Health+ is now UF Health St. Johns. Over time and in phases, the new brand will be infused into all aspects of the organization. However, an organization is much more than the logo. The quality of care our patients have come to know and trust remains the same.
